We are pleased to announce that Fathom will be exhibiting and presenting at the 9th annual CAT Risk Management and Modelling Summit from the 20th – 22nd June 2022 in London.

The event, hosted by Aventedge, will bring together key players of the European insurance market including insurers, risk managers, and finance professionals to talk about all things climate change, cyber security, data management and risk.

This year the conference will include a packed agenda full of presentations and roundtable discussions split across two days.

Day One Highlights – 20th June 2022

Giorgis Hadzilacos, Senior Technical Specialist – Catastrophe & Climate Risk, Bank of England

Day Two Highlights – 21st June 2022

10:30 Interactive breakout rooms

Round table 2

Climate change and flood: the good, the bad and the ugly

Dr Andrew Smith

14:35 Boutique climate modelling for a future of uncertain risk

Hosted by Emma Watkins, Head of Exposure Management and Aggregation at Lloyds, in this panel discussion we cover:

  • What are climate conditioned catastrophe models and how do they differ from traditional models?
  • In what way are climate conditioned catastrophe models altering the way that insurers assess risk for flood and other perils?
  • How are scientific research and climate data being used to derive multiple views of future risk?
  • Where can these models be useful? I.e. meeting regulatory requirements such as CBES.
Panellists: Andrew Smith, Chief Operations Officer, Fathom / Chris Ewing, Head Of Client Management – Aon Impact Forecasting / Richard Dixon, Head of Catastrophe Research, Inigo

As sponsors of the event, Fathom’s Co-founder and Chief Operations Officer Dr Andrew Smith will present a series of talks on the impact that climate change has on flood risk and flood modelling.

The interactive sessions will be a great opportunity to find out more on how our climate-conditioned flood models are built using the latest regional climate projections.

The impact of climate change on flood risk has been highlighted in previous studies carried out by Fathom researchers. For example, Dr Oliver Wing’s research found that extremes in precipitation are increasing on a global scale due to climate change.

Members of the Fathom team will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have on our flood hazard data and catastrophe models at our exhibition stand 15.

Our Fathom-UK and Fathom-US catastrophe models enable professionals to view a complete view of flood risk for a portfolio of locations.

They can be used as an effective and efficient way to manage natural catastrophe risk and mitigate regulatory climate risk requirements, of which are becoming increasingly pertinent.

There will also be a prize draw for the chance to win an Apple watch with a one-of-a-kind Fathom map custom wrist strap, so this is not to be missed! We hope to see you there.
