Intro

Fathom’s global flood risk intelligence enhances Japanese risk-management-expert company Tokio Marine dR’s natural disaster risk offering

Fathom, a global leader in flood risk intelligence, has been chosen to provide global flood data to Tokio Marine dR, a member of multinational insurance company Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (TMHD) to strengthen their natural disaster mitigation products and services offering.

Fathom’s global flood data will be accessed by Tokio Marine dR through its API software; an instant, on-demand access point that enables users to retrieve Fathom’s spatial data for a specific point, area or portfolio depending on their requirements. Multiple layers can also be selected, depending on the type of flood risk (fluvial, pluvial or coastal), depth and return period under any climate scenario.

Dr Andrew Smith, Chief Operations Officer at Fathom, said:

“The ability to identify flood risk to communities, properties and businesses is a key step to ensure protection and mitigation can be put in place. We’re excited to be working with Tokio Marine dR to help future-proof the Japanese company against the evolving risk of flooding.”

Property Risk Engineering Department at Tokio Marine dR, said:

“We look forward to working with Fathom to assess flood risk from a climate change perspective. Through the assessment, we will help Japanese companies improve their management practices and increase the resilience of their business operations and supply chains.”

Tokio Marine dR is a company of the TMHD, the largest property/casualty insurance group in Japan, is headquartered in Tokyo and represents Fathom’s first contract with an organization based in the country. However, it does not represent the organization’s first visit to Japan, with Chief Operations Officer Dr Andrew Smith previously asked to give a guest lecture at the University of Tokyo.
