Scientific Developer

Hamish Wilkinson

At Fathom, Hamish is focussed on the development, testing and deployment of models. In particular, he works with boundary conditions for the hydraulic models, integrating terrain data and the likes of LIDAR into Fathom’s global elevation map, FABDEM.

Before joining Fathom, Hamish worked as a Climate Risk Analyst at Dye and Durham. Here, he was involved in the development of climatically enabled natural peril models, ranging from subsidence to extreme wind. Hamish’s academic expertise includes achieving an MSc in Climate Change Science at the University of Bristol, which involved modeling storm surge and wave regime in the UK.

The marriage of business and academic vigor at Fathom is something that Hamish really values, and he mirrors the company’s belief that exposing data openly and transparently is imperative for scientific improvement to occur.

Outside of his day job, Hamish is a member of the UKCP18 User Group, which involves analyzing UK climate projections for the Met Office. When he finds the time, he can be found scaling one of the climbing walls in Bristol.
