Fathom is pleased to announce that EDF Renewables North America, the market leading independent power producer and service provider, has signed an agreement with flood risk intelligence firm Fathom to facilitate site selection across the US using Fathom’s US Flood Map.
Site identification and selection is an in-depth stage of any power project and EDF Renewables was in need of consistent, accurate data on the flood risk of a multitude of locations across the US for its future pipeline of solar and onshore wind farms.
The most complete and technically advanced flood map of the United States, Fathom’s groundbreaking US Flood Map offers insights unmatched by publicly available data. With a resolution of approximately 10 meters, the flood map delivers precise data on fluvial (river), pluvial (rainfall) and coastal flooding for return periods ranging from 1-in-5 years to 1-in-1000 years. This enables risk assessment from both frequent, small-scale flooding and rarer, large- scale flood events, ensuring that potential sites are thoroughly evaluated for long-term resilience.
The data has already been seamlessly integrated into EDF Renewables’ GIS platform. This provides a centralized, single source of truth that can be used by multiple teams to collaboratively analyze flood risks for potential sites.
Gavin Lewis, Head of Engineering at Fathom, said:
“Part of our mission has always been to leverage our flood risk intelligence to create a positive impact, so it’s great to be supporting EDF Renewables as they work to help create a more sustainable energy supply. Equipping their teams with consistent, high-resolution flood data will enable them to navigate the siting stage of their projects with greater speed and confidence.”
