Jess Mills
Jess’s role involves building, running and validating Fathom’s global flood models. This can involve writing code to generate efficient workflows, researching and implementing new science and methods and using GIS software to view and analyze model outputs.
Before joining Fathom, Jess studied mathematics and meteorology at Reading University and spent nearly five years at engineering services company Jacobs, working in the hydro-informatics team in the UK and the geospatial team in Melbourne, Australia. Her role involved building software solutions to water problems, notably on the UK’s new National Flood Risk Assessment (NaFRA2) and Long-Term Investment Scenarios (LTIS) strategic projects.
Jess now enjoys learning about the science and technology that underpins Fathom’s global models – and the freedom to explore balancing the science and practicality of modelling at a global scale to produce meaningful results.
When she’s not working, Jess enjoys running and traveling, often combining the two by entering races abroad. She is also a passionate cook, specifically plant-based recipes.
