From hazard to risk: Introducing Global Flood Cat

Wednesday, October 9 – 2 sessions to cover all timezones

Intro

Over a decade of innovation in flood modeling

In 2012, a group of researchers discussed some of the major obstacles that needed to be overcome in the field of flood modeling and, subsequently, set about trying to solve them. They explored the best ways to make cutting-edge methods of flood risk modeling more widely available. By 2013, this conversation had led to the formation of Fathom. The vision was simple: To become a leading research-led company, building advanced flood models, in hard-to-map regions.

Fast forward to today, Fathom is proud to announce the release of Global Flood Cat — the first truly global catastrophe model that considers both inland and coastal perils. It has been designed to transform how we understand and manage flood risk across the world.

Why attend the webinar?

Join our upcoming webinar to explore the model in detail: Why we created it, the science and methodologies behind Global Flood Cat, and its diverse applications. Learn about the journey that we have taken, from detailed hazard mapping to the to the development of a global flood catastrophe model.

In this session, you’ll gain insights into:

  • Why we’ve built Global Flood Cat
  • The evolution from hazard mapping to risk modeling
  • What is Global Flood Cat?
  • How we built Global Flood Cat
  • What makes Global Flood Cat unique?
  • Validation and preliminary results
  • Q&A

Hear directly from Fathom’s technical team behind the model, including Co-Founder and COO, Dr Andy Smith, Chief Product Officer, Dr Matthew Jones, and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Oliver Wing, as they walk you through the intricacies of our latest innovation.
