COO Andy Smith co-authors paper on multi-hazard risk in the Middle East
Fathom COO Dr Andy Smith collaborated on a Global Earthquake Model (GEM) led study conducting a multi-hazard risk assessment across the Middle East. The study used a regional probabilistic seismic hazard model from GEM and high resolution, probabilistic flood hazard data from Fathom’s global flood model, Fathom-Global. High-resolution exposure data were intersected with these hazard data, with losses estimated using vulnerability components that considered a range of building characteristics. The study demonstrates the ability to build large scale, multi-hazard models in relatively data poor areas producing data that raise risk awareness and support decision making.
